The Evil Techie has put together a quick solar oven project with some low cost everyday products. Using a car solar shade some Velcro patches and stick, he was able to come up with a collapsible portable solar oven concept.

Keep it in your car or take it on a hike, this 20 minute project will surely come in handy on a bright sunny day.

Green Wheel: The Future Of Electric Bikes

The Green Wheel, a revolutionary design prototype being developed by MIT that aims at replacing standard bike wheels with a complete self enclosed electric powered wheel. The genius behind the design is that everything (Battery, Generator and Electric motor) is enclosed in the center hub.

“Just take the wheel off, put a GreenWheel equipped wheel on in its place, plug it in and it should work just fine … The whole thing has been designed so all the parts except the throttle are enclosed in the wheel.” [Discovery News]

NASA Global Warming Satellite Crashes At Launch

February 24 – NASA’s Taurus XL rocket carrying global warming equipment to monitor carbon monoxide levels, crashed shortly after takeoff. The $280 million rocket crashed into the ocean near Antarctica.

The initial cause of the failure came when the clamshell-like fairing failed to separate causing excess weight effecting the propulsion system.

The satellite was expected to provide real-time CO2 data to help scientists monitor and study changing levels in the atmosphere.

Best Buy Expands E-Recycling Program To All Stores

The leading electronics retailer Best Buy has announced that they will be expanding its e-recycling program to all stores. You can now take in your pile of e-wast siting in the corner of your office to your local Best Buy store for recycling. Here are some of the rules:

  • No hard drives
  • TVs or monitors bigger than 32 inches
  • Anything containing Freon
  • Anything classified as an Appliance
  • TV, monitor, and laptop costs a $10 fee to recycle
  • Only taking two items per household, per day

Boosting a lighter design and improved efficiency the Bose system will unveil with the Chevy Volt sometime in 2010.
